Publish What You Pay's global coalition of transparency advocacy organisations has come a long way in the years since we rebuilt the site with Drupal in 2008. And there was a growing sense that the Where We Work section wasn't properly keeping pace with the range of members or their activities. So we took a fresh look at the mapping, the navigation and the page layout.
The result is a clearer interface for the global entry page, with a simple second level menu based on regions. Each country page gives background on the local transparency and extractive industries situation and context. There a cross referenced list of resources and full list of coaltion partners.
The story from 2008: After a thorough needs assessment amongst the members of this global coalition, PWYP(Publish What You Pay) embarked on a major website rebuild project. They wanted a site that would serve up their resources in a simple and organised way, with an updated look and feel. Working together with PWYP staff, we devised a much simpler navigation that rationalised the wealth of content into 5 main sections. The reach of the coalition is powerfully presented using interactive mapping of members across the world. A sophisticated multi-lingual function enables content to be stored and published in 5 languages. GreenNet partnered with "Wave":http://www.wave.coop for the design element of the project. Their design is based on clean, well structured xhtml code in a non-table based layout and using cascading style sheets (CSS) for all the presentational information. This improves the site's chances in search engine content rankings and also makes pages quicker to download, much more accessible to all users and easier to update.
