There are numerous broadband providers that offer connections using BTs network infrastructure, and ALL of these providers claim to offer 'UP TO 8 MEG Broadband'. The 'UP TO' bit depends on how far you are from the BT exchange, and since the BT network is relatively dated (running over copper wires), the further away you are, the slower your connection. As an ethical ISP(Internet Service Provider) we feel it is our duty to give more power to our users when making a decision and recommend that users check which exchange they are routed through to ensure they're getting the best service and speeds possible. A good place to check whether you can get GreenNet Broadband is on Broadband Availability Checker on the Sam Knows website, and follow these simple steps:
- Type in your phone number or your postcode and click 'CHECK', you will find a list of providers, mainly BT but perhaps some other LLU(local loop un-bundling) providers too.
- On the left, click on 'BT ADSL' box.
- Here you will find all the information you need from how approximately how far you are from the exchange, to what the highest speeds are and what services are on offer. Since GreenNet (like most other ISPs) have to use the BT network, if you find BT anywhere on this list you will also be fully capable of signing up to GreenNet Broadband.
