Brixton-based Philip King and Douglas Whitton aim to raise awareness of an ecological way of heating food when their business is launched later this year, by offering workshops around south London. They will sell the cookers and train people to use and make them.

The South Downs Inquiry Inspector has recommended that the South Downs becomes a national park and has recommended that around 25 square km of land be added to the park. The Bulgarian police has called in bloggers and pressured them to stop writing about the environmental protests. Michel Bozgounov from Bluelink, the APC member in Bulgaria, was one of several online activists who were summoned, interrogated, and advised to refrain from blogging on environmental protests. After an event attended by European Parliament members, representatives from industry and enterprise, NGOs and IP specialists, the EPO has published a statement that ‘All speakers welcomed unequivocally the opportunity to discuss the issue at a high level and made clear that a new CII (computer-implemented inventions) debate followed by legal modifications was neither necessary nor desirable.’

Mordechai Vanunu, the Israeli nuclear whistle-blower previously imprisoned from 1986-2004, has been sentenced to 6 months' imprisonment plus six months' suspended for talking to foreigners. He has until September to appeal. Vanunu can receive messages of support at PO Box 20102, Herodotus Post Office, East Jerusalem 91384, and an Early Day Motion 1813 has been tabled calling for lifting of restrictions.

Opponents of a planned chemical plant in Xiamen found a way around the censors using text messages. There were hundreds of thousands of messages sent, leading to an increase in public anger about the plant and forcing a postponement in construction until further environmental impact studies are carried out.
