Pakistan president withdraws media curbs

after thousands of people demonstrated in four cities and there was growing condemnation from journalists around the world. The increased control over the media had been extended to to give the state broadcasting authority more powers to shut down TV stations and increase the powers of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulation Authority.
