Mastodon is free and open-source software for running self-hosted social networking services. It has microblogging features similar to Twitter, which are offered by a large number of independently run nodes, known as instances, each with its own code of conduct, terms of service, privacy policy, privacy options, and content moderation policies.
GreenNet has had a twitter account since 2009 and among the corporate social media, it has been the only platform that captured our attention, but we support decentralised open networks like mastodon on pronciple and so the recent changes to governance and atmosphere were the prompt we neded to jump to mastodon. We don't mind if we don't get millions of users - part of the beauty of the mastodon federated network is that it runs on loads of small independent nodes like GreenNet!
