We have been on the platform for over 15 years, and we've had enough - the Twitter that we used to enjoy is no more, sadly Twitter's URL redirects to x.com now.
The factors that have finally forced us out are firstly: we don't want any association with Elon Musk. Secondly the content of Twitter has deteriorated, partly due to changes in the algorithm and user accounts, but also partly because increasing numbers of our peers, allies and like-minded users are leaving. The third factor is that better alternatives, especially platforms that are working towards interoperability, are available - we have been running a Mastodon instance for a couple of years, and we have recently set up a Bluesky account.
However, we recognise that many movements, groups and individuals that we support are still using the platform and we don't want to lose touch or miss out on their news.
Also, Twitter's community has no perfect equivalent at present - Mastodon is still not widely used and Bluesky is another non-FLOSS project that could become enshittified in future. We look forward to interoperability tools that an reduce dependence on single social platforms.
So we're not going to delete our account, we're just sending x.com a big banana from GreenNet
