Are you feeling uptight about GDPR*? Don't worry! Everyone is rushing about busily and trying to understand their responsibilities at the moment.

The new law aims to give more power to the data subject - that's you and I. How it will play out is what everyone is waiting to see... if your data protection practices were good before GDPR, then you probably have everything required in the new rules already. If you are slack in that respect and arent dealing with people's personal data responsibly, then you should fix up! The punishments are going to be potentially much bigger than at present, but it remains to be seen how the authorities will exercise the new regulations.

Practically that might mean that if you publish an email newsletter you will need to be able to show that everyone has signed up willingly. If your mailing list is with GreenNet, or if you'd like to find out about how GreenNet's services help you achieve GDPR compliance, you're welcome to give us a ring or email for a chat about it all.

* What is the GDPR?

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a new, Europe-wide law that replaces the Data Protection Act 1998 in the UK. It is part of the wider package of reform to the data protection landscape that includes the Data Protection Bill. The GDPR sets out requirements for how organisations will need to handle personal data from 25 May 2018.

Masses of consultants, bloggers and other types of pundits are punting advice about GDPR, here's a useful set of FAQs for charities from the IC herself to get you started https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/charity/charities-faqs/
